The All Important First Email.
This was a response to the oft asked question "Would you just ignore someone who said hi to you in person?" You know the post.. "I have written 100 emails in the last week and you rude fuckers didn't answer"
Yes, I do ignore people in person too. I am not obligated to respond to "nice rack" or "you're hot" in person anymore than I am on line. As for the "Hello, how ya doing?" I just nod and walk on, no eye contact.
I don't answer my door every time someone knocks on it nor do I answer my phone every time it rings. Yes, I can be a bitch like that. I don't get out of the tub for nothing short of someone breaking down my door. An email is like a knock on my door or a message on my answering machine.
For most woman there must be something engaging. In public say she is at a video store. A man could talk to her about the movie. I see you picked up "name of movie" I hated/loved it and why. Without giving away the ending please.
Here on the web you have tools to work with that you don't in public. You have her profile and (on some sites) her journal. Speak to her about something in one of them. Something you share a view on. She will most likely answer. She may not talk to you long if you do not hold her interest but at least she will most likely answer your first email.
So if you are going to knock on her door please at least try to engage her in conversation. If all you say is "hi, I like your photos" or "how are you" the guy trying to sell me vinyl siding has a better chance of not getting the door slammed in his face.
